The University of the Philippines Singing Ambassadors (UPSA) under Conductor/Founder Dr. Edgardo Lumbera Manguiat, is one of the Philippines’ foremost choral groups today. In its 37 years of existence, UPSA has consistently brought honor and prestige to the country, winning various prizes and awards in competitions in Italy, Spain, France, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Wales, Hungary and Switzerland. It is one of only four Filipino choirs (with the Philippine Madrigal Singers, The Ateneo Glee Club, and the UST Singers) to have qualified to join the European Grand Prix (EGP) for Choral Singing, the most coveted choral prize in the world. UPSA was also the official entry of the Philippines to the UNESCO International Music Prize in 2005.

UPSA was elevated to the ALIW HALL OF FAME by the Aliw Awards Foundation after winning three times the Best Choral Group award in the Philippines in 2011, 2010 and 2002. Performing classical to the most modern music genre, UPSA also showcases Ethnic and folkloric dances and costumes. UPSA finds fulfilment in sharing its music to the less privileged, the sick and the needy, orphans and the aged.

The UPSA Outreach Program has involved the group in fundraising activities for the sick and the needy, and visits to hospital wards, homes for the aged and orphanages. Now on its 34th year, this amateur choir with professional aspirations and an international prominence finds fulfilment sharing its music to the less privileged who are constant recipients of their musical generosity.

He is the winner of the Dirigentenpreis (Conductor’s Award) at the 2nd Johannes Brahms International Choir Competition in Germany, and the Special Prize for Excellent Conducting Performance at the 25th Bela Bartok International Choral Competition in Debrecen, Hungary.
