The U.P. Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Awards 2014
The UPAA honored UP’s outstanding alumni achievers as the UPAA Distinguished Alumni Awardees at the 2014 UP Grand Alumni-Faculty Homecoming and Reunion on June 21, 2014 at the University Theater which also marked the association’s 101st foundation year — with the theme Bagong Tagsibol (“a new spring”).
The UPAA Distinguished Alumni Awards are conferred on alumni who have demonstrated in their chosen fields of endeavor, extraordinary achievements and excellent contributions that bring about substantial benefits to society and distinct honor to the University. Recognition is given for achievements and contributions that impact the community in which the alumni are or have been active, whether this is at the local, national or international level.
The U.P. SINGING AMBASSADORS, founded and conducted by Prof. Edgardo L. Manguiat (BSHRA’83) is recognized for its achievements and contributions in its field of endeavor for the University and the community it has chosen to serve. The other UPAA Distinguished Service Awardees are Dr. Mimosa Cortez-Ocampo, BSHT’67; MS’76; and Dr. Eric S.M. Talens, BS’81; MD’85; MSEpi’01.
Heading this year’s crème de la crème as Most Distinguished Alumnus is DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo, a gifted, multi-awarded engineer and inventor with a long list of technological innovations. Under his leadership, DOST, in cooperation with colleges, universities and other organizations, has reshaped its policies and programs to address national problems, develop appropriate technologies, improve industry competitiveness, and enhance delivery of services.
